5 During the time when Herod was king of the land of Israel, there was a priest named Zechariah, who belonged to the priestly order of Abijah. His wife's name was Elizabeth; she also belonged to a priestly family.
5 Cuando Herodes era rey de Judea, vivía un sacerdote llamado Zacarías, que era del grupo de Abías. Su esposa se llamaba Elisabet y era también descendiente del sacerdote Aarón.

9 According to the custom followed by the priests, he was chosen by lot to burn the incense on the altar. So he went into the temple of the Lord,

12 When Zechariah saw him he was troubled and felt afraid.

13 But the angel said to him, "Don't be afraid, Zechariah! God has heard your prayer, and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son. You are to name him John.
13 Pero el ángel le dijo: -Zacarías, no tengas miedo, porque Dios ha oído tu oración, y tu esposa Elisabet va a tener un hijo, al que pondrás por nombre Juan.

14 How glad and happy you will be, and how happy many others will be when he is born!

16 He will bring back many of the people of Israel to the Lord their God.

17 He will go ahead of him, strong and mighty like the prophet Elijah. He will bring fathers and children together again; he will turn the disobedient people back to the way of thinking of the righteous; he will get the Lord's people ready for him."
17 Este Juan irá delante del Señor, y tendrá el espíritu y el poder del profeta Elías, para poner a los padres en paz con sus hijos, y para que los rebeldes aprendan a obedecer. Así va a preparar a la gente para recibir al Señor.

18 Zakariastaq angelta nirqan:- ¿Imaynapitaq niwasqaykiqa cheqaq kasqanta yachasaq? Ñoqaykuqa sinchi machu-payañan kayku, nispa.

l8 Zechariah said to the angel; "How shall I know if this is so? I am an old man and my wife also is old."
l8 Zacarías le preguntó al ángel: ¿Cómo puedo estar seguro de esto? Porque yo soy muy anciano y mi esposa también.

19 "I am Gabriel," the angel answered. "I stand in the presence of God, who sent me to speak to you and tell you this good news.
19 El ángel le contestó: -Yo soy Gabriel, y estoy al servicio de Dios; él me mandó para hablarte y darte estas buenas noticias.

20 Qanman nisqay simikunaqa tiemponpipunin hunt'akunqa, qanmi ichaqa mana creenkichu, chayraykun upayanki, manan rimayta atinkichu wawayki nacemunankama, nispa.

20 But you have not believed my message, which will come true at the right time. Because you have not believed you will be unable to speak; you will remain silent until the day my promise to you comes true."
20 Pero ahora, como no creíste lo que te dije, vas a quedar mudo y no podrás hablar hasta que nazca tu hijo. Esto se cumplirá a su debido tiempo.

21 Chaykamataq runakunaqa Zakariasta hawapi suyasharqanku. Paykunaqa Dios yupaychana wasipi unayta kamuqtinmi muspharqanku.

2l In the meantime the people were waiting for Zechariah, wondering why he was spending such a long time in the temple.
21 Míentras tanto, la gente estaba afuera esperando a Zacarías, y se extrañaban de que tardara tanto en salir del templo.

22 When he came out he could not speak to them, and so they knew that he had seen a vision in the temple. Unable to say a word, he made signs to them with his hands.

24 Some time later his wife Elizabeth became pregnant, and did not leave the house for five months.

26 In the sixth month of Elizabeth's pregnancy God sent the angel Gabriel to a town in Galilee named Nazareth.

27 He had a message for a girl promised in marriage to a man named Joseph, who was a descendant of King David. The girl's name was Mary.

28 The angel came to her and said, "Peace be with you! The Lord is with you, and has greatly blessed you!"

29 Mary was deeply troubled by the angel's message, and she wondered what his words meant.

32 He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High God. The Lord God will make him a king, as his ancestor David was,
32 El va a ser grande; será llamado Hijo del Dios altísimo, y Dios el Señor le hará rey como a su antepasado David,

33 Hinan Jacobpa mirayninta wiñaypaq kamachinqa, kamachikuynintaq mana tukukuq kanqa, nispa.

33 and he will be the king of the descendants of Jacob forever; his kingdom will never end!"

34 Mary said to the angel, "I am a virgin. How, then, can this be?"

35 The angel answered, "The Holy Spirit will come on you, and God's power will rest upon you.
35 El ángel le contestó: -El Espíritu Santo vendrá sobre ti, y el poder del Dios altísimo te envolverá como una nube. Por eso, el niño que va a nacer será consagrado a Dios y lo llamarán Hijo de Dios.

36 Aylluyki Elisabetpas yuyaq-kayninpiñan qhari wawata wiksallikun. Paytaqa "Mana wachakuq" nirqankun, ichaqa kunanwanmi soqta killaña wiksallikusqan.

36 Remember your relative Elizabeth. It is said that she cannot have children; but she herself is now six months pregnant, even though she is very old.
36 También tu parienta Elisabet va a tener un hijo a pesar de que ya es anciana; así pues, la que decían que no podía tener hijos está encinta desde hace seis meses.

37 Diospaqqa manan imapas mana atikuqqa kanchu, nispa.

37 For there is not a thing that God cannot do."
37 Para Dios no hay nada imposible.

38 Chaymi Mariaqa nirqan:- Señor Diospa warmi kamachinmi kani, nisqaykiman hina Diosqa ñoqawan ruwachun, nispa. Angeltaq qayllanmanta ripurqan.

38 "I am the Lord's servant" said Mary; "may it happen to me as you have said." And the angel left her.
38 Entonces María dijo : -Yo soy esclava del Señor; que Dios haga conmigo como me has dicho. Con esto, el ángel se fue.

40 She went into Zechariah's house and greeted Elizabeth.

43 Why should this great thing happen to me, that my Lord's mother comes to visit me?

44 For as soon as I heard your greeting, the baby within me jumped with gladness.

53 He filled the hungry with good things, and sent the rich away with empty hands.

54 He kept the promise he made to our ancestors, and came to the help of his servant Israel;
55 he remembered to show mercy to Abraham and to all his descendants forever!"

58 Her neighbors and relatives heard how wonderfully good the Lord had been to her and they all rejoiced with her.

59 When the baby was a week old they came to circumcise him; they were going to name him Zechariah, his father's name.

60 But his mother said, "No! His name will be John."

61 They said to her, "But you don't have any relative with that name!"

62 Then they made signs to his father, asking him what name he would like the boy to have.
62 Entonces preguntaron por señas al padre del niño, para saber qué nombre quería él ponerle.

63 Hinan qelqana tablachata mañakuspa qelqarqan: Juanmi sutinqa, nispa. Lliwtaq utirayarqanku.

63 Zechariah asked for a writing pad and wrote, "His name is John." How surprised they all were!
63 El padre pidió una tabla para escribir, y escribió: "Su nombre es Juan." Y todos se admiraron de esto.

64 At that moment Zechariah was able to speak again, and he started praising God.

66 Everyone who heard of it thought about it and asked, "What is this child going to be?" It was plain that the Lord's power was with him.

67 John's father Zechariah was filled with the Holy Spirit, and he spoke God's message,
67 Su padre Zacarías, lleno del Espíritu Santo y hablando palabras que Dios le dio, dijo:

68 Israelpa Señor Diosninqa yupaychasqa kachun watukamuspan llaqtanta kacharichisqanmanta.

68 "Let us praise the Lord, the God of Israel! He came to the help of his people and set them free.
68 Alabado sea el Señor, Dios de Israel, porque ha venido a nosotros que somos su pueblo y nos ha salvado.

69 Kamachin Davidpa mirayninmantataq atiyniyoq qespichiqta kachamuwanchis.

69 He provided a mighty Savior for us, who is a descendant of his servant David.
69 Nos ha dado un poderoso Salvador de entre los descendientes de su siervo David.

70 Ch'uya profetankunawanmi* Diosqa ñawpaqmantaña prometerqan

70 Long ago by means of his holy prophets he said this:
70 Así lo prometió por medio de sus santos profetas desde tiempos antiguos:

71 awqanchiskunamanta qespichiwananchispaq' llapan cheqnikuwaqninchismanta kacharichiwananchispaq.

71 he promised to save us from our enemies, and from the power of all those who hate us.
71 que nos iba a salvar de nuestros enemigos y de todos los que nos odian,

72 Prometellarqantaqmi machulanchiskunata khuyapayananpaq, ch'uya rimanakuyninta yuyarikunanpaqwan.

72 He said he would show mercy to our ancestors, and remember his sacred covenant.
72 y que tendría compasión de nuestros antepasados, que no se olvidaría de su santo pacto.

73 Diosmi machulanchis Abrahamman juraspa prometerqan
74 awqanchiskunamanta kacharichisqa kananchispaq,

73-74 He made a solemn promise to our ancestor Abraham, and vowed that he would rescue us from our enemies, and allow us to serve him without fear;
73 Esta fue la promesa que Dios juró a nuestro padre Abraham:
74 que nos iba a librar de nuestros enemigos, para que le sirvamos sin miedo,

75 paypa ñawpaqenpi ch'uyata chaninta kawsaspa lliw p'unchayninchiskunapi mana manchakuspa servinanchispaq.

75 to be holy and righteous before him, all the days of our life.
75 justos y consagrados a él, todos los días de nuestra vida:

76 Qantaqmi, wawáy, Qollana Diospa profetan* nisqa kanki, Señor Diospa ñawpaqenta ñanninkunata allichaspa rinki.

76 "You, my child, will be called a prophet of the Most High God. You will go ahead of the Lord to prepare his road for him;
76 Y tú, hijito mío, serás llamado profeta del Dios altísimo, porque irás delante del Señor preparando sus caminos,

77 Llaqtanpa huchankunatan pampachanqa, ahinapin paykunata qespichinqa, chaytan paykunaman willanki.

77 to tell his people that they will be saved, by having their sins forgiven.
77 para hacer saber a su pueblo que sus pecados les serán perdonados, y que así recibirán salvación.

78 Diosninchismi anchata khuyapayawaspanchis hanaq pachamanta Pacha-paqariy k'anchaywan watukamuwasunchis,

78 Our God is merciful and tender. He will cause the bright dawn of salvation to rise on us,
78 Pues nuestro Dios, en su amor y misericordia, nos da desde lo alto el sol de un nuevo día,

79 laqhayaqpi tiyaqkunatapas, wañuyta manchakuqkunatapas k'anchaykunanpaq, allin kawsay ñanpi pusawananchispaq, nispa.

79 and shine from heaven on all those who live in the dark shadow of death, to guide our steps into the path of peace."
79 para traer luz a los que viven en la oscuridad y en sombra de muerte, y para guiar nuestros pasos por el camino de paz.

80 Wawataq wiñasharqan yuyaytapas aswanaswanta hap'isharqan. Ch'inneqpitaq tiyarqan Israel llaqtaman rikuchikunan p'unchaykama.

80 The child grew and developed in body and spirit. He lived in the desert until the day when he would appear publicly to the people of Israel.
80 Y el niño crecía y se hacía fuerte espiritualmente, y vivió en los desiertos hasta el día en que se dio a conocer a la gente de Israel.
